Why write stories?

“The truth about stories is that that’s all we are.”

Thomas King

Writing stories pushes us to think about how we articulate our existence and about the record we want to create for future generations. Writing stories about place pushes us to think of our experiences in place, to think about who we write for, how we want our stories told, and why those stories matter.

Why place?

The survival of our world depends on deepening and acting upon our relationships with the natural environment. It depends on knowing places so intimately that we will love them in and out of pain, and stand to protect them always. To write a story about a place is to get to know it in (k)new ways.
